Biking & Horseback Riding
Over 1 million people ride the Silver Comet Trail each year. Reconstructing the old rail bed began in 1998 and was completed in 2008 with 90 miles between Smyrna, Ga, and the Alabama line at Cedartown, Georgia. The trail changes its name to the Chief Ladiga Trail as it crosses the state line. Eventually, it will connect to the Amtrak railway in Anniston for bikers' use. The old rail bed was taken up and paved. The Silver Comet Trail passes 18 miles through Paulding County with some of the best trail heads & scenic views along the trail. There is a horseback riding by the side of the trail. Paulding County was named after John Paulding, who became a war hero when he helped arrest a man who was plotting with Benedict Arnold to betray the American government at the time of the American Revolution. During the Civil War, a significant surprise took place when the Union Army could burst through the enemy lines and advance toward Atlanta sooner. The Confederates waited until Sherman’s men made their move and fought through the night defeating the Union Army three to one. In this area, one of the many things to do is spend your time browsing some of the unique shops. Dallas and Hiram have a variety of shops in and around the historic districts. There are some restaurants that locals visit regularly. If you like antiques, arts and crafts, and specialty gifts, you will like the variety of choices while browsing the small-town district.
