Before man landed on the moon, Ross Diner had been serving customers for almost a quarter of a century. Known as one of Georgia’s oldest cafes. They’re still serving breakfast and lunch in the historic downtown of Cartersville, GA. When they opened , television was still a new kid on the block, our WW2 heroes were in their last tour of duty , and when the Ross Diner opened in 1945, Cartersville was about to celebrate its first 100 years. There have been many changes through the decades. The city still draws many tourists off the highways. It seems like a new hotel is popping up when someone begins talking about what is happening in Bartow County. — highlights and attractions from this guide

CARTERSVILLE

When folks visiting the downtown stop in for a bite to eat at Ross Diner, they take a seat on a stool open around a u-shaped counter. It’s a tradition for folks to sit next to each other. Often, a conversation begins with some of the locals. However, one can sit quietly and enjoy their meal. The only conversation will be the counter folks to approach the counter to ask what you will be having today or to refill your beverage. While many enter for a quick bite to eat and leave to return to work, regulars know they will be served by true southern hospitality. The food is delicious and served fresh. — highlights and attractions from this guide

Did you know? The Ross Diner still has a pay phone in operation. You can actually make a call for about 60 cents. However, most use their own cell phone service. It’s mostly a novelty. It’s something to show the kids and it makes a great conversation piece. Many can still remember the days before "wireless & wifi" was considered a vocabulary word .

The food is soon brought to you. Don’t be surprised if the staff treats those who dine with them like family or old friends. They are sincere when they ask how are you doing. The menu offers a variety of breakfast choices and can be ordered until they close around 2:30 most days. You will have to check with them if they will be open later hours on the weekend. However, it’s a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch. They have a variety of sandwiches. You will want to try their chili. Also, for dessert it’s a treat to consider one of their fried pies. — highlights and attractions from this guide

They offer a good variety of biscuits. A favorite is the country ham biscuit. Another is the country steak biscuit, open faced topped with gravy. Of course, you can ask for it on the side. — highlights and attractions from this guide
