Making Christmas Memories in the Foothills! ........... wheres the Peace On Earth?
Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. For centuries, folks from all over the world have celebrated the season with the reading of the Christmas story in the Gospel of Luke chapter 2. This passage truly brings out the emotion of the Christmas season. However do you respond to Christmas when the season has no more tinsel to wrap around your heart? The ornaments with the memories of Christmas pasts that hung every year have faded with the gift of hugs and kisses waiting to be opened.
Actually, the first Christmas came during a time when humanity had no room for the little baby born on that night. He was laid in a food trough. No large welcoming committee awaited his arrival. With an invitation of Heavenly Hosts, poor shepherds came and worshipped the Baby Jesus. Later, wise men from the east had to diligently search for the promised child. It took about two years to follow His Star. They had been ordered by Herod to notify him when they found the baby. Why wasn't Jesus born in a palace? Instead, a decree was made to take the life of every child born under the age of two. Mary must have been concerned about her situation. She always had to wonder what people thought. Who actually understood? The flight into Egypt soon after the birth became a weary journey. It seemed like Mary and Joseph were always running from uncertainty and even the threat of danger. It had to weigh on her heart concerning her little baby with no place to lay his head. However, nothing could thwart the delivery of the Christ child to be born in Bethlehem, as God had told the prophets. Yet, you could ask her about her first Christmas night. Perhaps, she remembered the answer given by the angel who brought the news when she asked, "how can these things be?" She was told, " The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee..." The Holy Spirit who brought this about would keep them safe. Luke would tell us like this, "But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart." Her first Christmas was not dependent upon the circumstances around her, but the FAITH WITHIN HER. God sent HIS SON in turbulent times when mankind lacked "PEACE ON EARTH, GOODWILL TOWARD MEN". This makes the birth of Jesus a promise to all who know Him, even today. Our faith is based on who Jesus is and not the weight of the burdens we carry. May the Christmas season be about the most blessed birth on earth. Gods expression of His love came to us that first Christmas night with the turbulences a brewing. May the birth of Jesus calm the storm and rest in HIS PEACE.
